Neil Pendock rates our Merlot as one of the best in the country.
Our 2010 vintage was selected as one of only 3 SA Merlot’s to be served by SAA.
SA climate is not conducive to producing good Merlot, it is too warm. Rainbow’s End with its high-lying slopes has lower temperatures on average, correcting the problem. Merlot is planted 550m above sea level on our highest slopes.
This is a fruit driven Merlot with plums and mulberry on the nose, low alcohol levels, smooth and well integrated palate, with none of the greenness that South African Merlot’s tend to be known for. We go through great lengths to produce a well structured and concentrated Merlot.
