Craggy Range produces a collection of iconic wines from multiple regions in New Zealand. Owner Terry Peabody and his family pursued the single vineyard approach to winemaking, planting on green fields and bare land ensuring a focus on quality from the very beginning.
New Zealand, with its diversity of soils types, offered the perfect location to plant the vines. From the stony, warm soils of the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke’s Bay to the volcanic, clay soils of Te Muna Road in Martinborough these exceptional vineyards produce wines with amazing aromatics, purity and complexity.
The wines, produced for the Prestige and Family Collections are pure expressions of the unique terroir in which they were grown.
This lot includes:
2 x 750 ml Craggy Range Le Sol 2019
2 x 750 ml Craggy Range Sophia 2019
Craggy Range 2019 Le Sol: 100 % Syrah
Tasting note: Le Sol is always aromatically pure with a luscious yet elegant mid-palate and a distinctive fine tannin finish. Deep and dark with a purple hue. An overwhelming presence that suggests this wine will live to be iconic. The nose is flush with mulberry, violets, lavender and cocoa. The palate, whilst obviously young and vibrant with taut tannins, is complex, deep and intoxicating - so much dark, black fruit, changing with every mouthfeel.
Craggy Range Sophia 2019: 60% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting note: Deep dark red. The perfume is intoxicating with ripe blueberry overlaying cinnamon, brioche and a hint of leafy varietal lingering in the background. The palate sits upright and all-encompassing. Tannins are long and silky, flavour concentrated and ripe, the finish endless - the hallmarks of one of the great Sophia’s.
