Kanonkop Paul Sauer 2018: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot.
Tasting Notes: The saturated ruby colour is complimented by an array of scents typically associated with Paul Sauer – fresh herbs, tilled earth, pencil shavings, spice, red- and black fruits. While being heady and perfumed, the wine remains classic and refined, with an utterly elegant structure. The tannins are precise, and together with the clever use of new oak, creates the perfect backdrop to host the complex fruit spectrum. The finish is sappy and spicy, with layered notes of red fruits and cured meats on the long, youthful finish.
Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek Cabernet 2014: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting notes: The nose entices with red stone fruit and cassis abound. The palate shows richness, texture and a youthful elegance with blackcurrant, spicy tobacco and hints of sweet Cape “fynbos” (shrub). Refined, well integrated tannins and a certain tension on the mid-palate suggest significant ageing potential.
Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek Cabernet 2015: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting notes: A brooding nose entices with its abundance of black and blueberry aromas and hints of cigar box and tobacco spiciness. The palate is exceptionally full and round, yet precise with the crème de cassis, black currant and Cedar wood of the nose following through with notes of pencil shavings, red capsicum, tealeaf and subtle cloves. Grainy tannins and a perfect acidity balance that dark berry fruit on a rich mid-palate, suggesting significant ageing potential. The finish is smooth and complex with its offering of red liquorice, fennel bulb and exotic spice and an impressive length.
