Kanonkop Paul Sauer 2018: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot.
Tasting Notes: The saturated ruby colour is complimented by an array of scents typically associated with Paul Sauer – fresh herbs, tilled earth, pencil shavings, spice, red- and black fruits. While being heady and perfumed, the wine remains classic and refined, with an utterly elegant structure. The tannins are precise, and together with the clever use of new oak, creates the perfect backdrop to host the complex fruit spectrum. The finish is sappy and spicy, with layered notes of red fruits and cured meats on the long, youthful finish.
Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon 2016: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting notes: The Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 has an intense, vivid purple colour with slight gradation at the rim. On the nose the wine shows pronounced plum and classic cedar wood-cigar box notes with lifted dark fruit aromas. There is the characteristic hallmark aromas of fennel and liquorice associated with Meerlust Cabernet. On the palate the wine is full bodied but with richness of fruit and supple tannic structure typical of 2016
Boekenhoutskloof Stellenbosch Cabernet 2014: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting notes: Claret like in its profile, the wine exhibits richness, texture and a youthful elegance. Wild berry, cassis with spicy notes abound. The tannins are refined, well integrated and suggest the wine has significant ageing potential.
Thelema Cabernet Sauvignon 2018: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting notes: Complex and stylish, with aromas of ripe blackcurrant, dark chocolate and pencil shavings. This wine is bone dry, yet exhibits a lovely sweet fruit character on the palate, with a lovely long finish.
Radford Dale Black Rock 2017: 58% Syrah, 16% Carignan, 15% Cinsault, 11% Mourvèdre
Earlier picking means lower alcohol and bright, fresh expression of the fruit. The nose shows complexity through interesting spice and fynbos aromas and a prominent dark fruit note. On the palate, the wine delights with generous concentration and refined, smooth texture. This vintage is a bit bolder than the 2016 and this is driven by the spiciness from the old vine Syrah yet it is still delicate because of the warmth of fruit that comes from Cinsault and Carignan, which also adds a savoury element to the wine.
Raka Quinary 2018: 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, 9% Malbec
Tasting notes: Appearance: Dark plum colour. Bouquet & Palate: Blackberries, plum spicy hints and cedar against a cigar box background. The wine is well balanced with mouth filling fruit, elegant oak flavours and silky tannins.
