where Church Road now stands. Over 125 years of capturing the riches of the
Hawke’s Bay region, harnessing the natural terroir and individual character of the vineyards.
Church Road 1 is a range of single vineyard wines that showcase the terroir of our best vineyards. Planted on the eastern banks of the Tuki Tuki River by Tom McDonald in the 1960s, our Tuki Tuki Vineyard’s dense clay soils and cooling sea breezes make it ideally suited to producing Chardonnay, the sole variety grown here in naturally modest yields of fragrant fruit with a natural acidity and a minerality not felt as keenly in grapes grown at other sites.
